From July 19 to July 21, the head of the National Food Agency of Georgia, Zurab Chekurashvili, and the deputy head of the National Food Agency of Georgia, senior veterinary inspector Vasiliy Basiladzela, visited the Food and Veterinary Service for an exchange of experience.
A meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards is planned, a visit to the Food and Veterinary Service, the Scientific Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment "Bior", as well as an introduction to food safety monitoring in the Riga Central Market and a food production company.
The Food and Veterinary Service, as a leading partner, in cooperation with the State Plant Protection Service of Latvia, the competent food supervision authorities of Estonia and Sweden, is implementing the European Union-funded Twinning project "Strengthening further sanitary and phytosanitary measures and ensuring the development of the food safety system in Georgia" in Georgia, the purpose of which is is to promote the competitiveness of Georgian food products on the EU market and to strengthen the trust of Georgian consumers in the food control system by using the experience and knowledge of the EU member states.
During the visit, current issues regarding the jointly implemented project in Georgia will be discussed in order to ensure the implementation of the planned results in the training of Georgian specialists and inspectors, the development of legislation and the development of procedures for the implementation of regulatory acts on veterinary, food monitoring, border control and plant health issues.
